The University Calendar lists a plethora of important dates and deadlines. Below is a summary of the most important dates, and why you need to know them.
Wattle Sites/Course Content starts to come online
8th of February
Wattle pages are generally released to students two weeks before teaching commences. To get access to the content early, please enrol in courses by the recommended enrolment date. Doing so will allow you to get ahead and figure out all the course admin preparations before you set foot in the classroom.
Deadline to add Semester 1 courses
1st of March
After this time, you may still add classes via ISIS but you must have special permission to do so. This should not be confused with the Census date.
Census Date
31st of March
The Census Date is the last day to drop courses without financial or academic liability. If you drop a course before this date comes to pass you will not be expected to pay for it, nor will it appear on your transcript. In most cases, international students will not be able to drop courses this far into the semester as they must maintain a full-time load.
Teaching Break (Mid-Semester)
5th April – 19th April
This is a break between ‘teaching periods’ (terms) in the middle of the semester. This is a break for teachers – not undergrad students. Most people will have assessments or work to catch up on during this break. However, typically no new course content is being delivered during either teaching break (no lectures/tutorials).
Teaching Break (Pre-Exams)
28th May – 2nd May
This time should be used for studying for your exams.
Examination Period
3rd June – 19th June
You are expected to stay at ANU for the entirety of this session unless the final version of the Exam Timetable explicitly states that your last exam is before the 17th, which will allow you to leave Canberra earlier. For now, if you wish to flee the capital be sure to plan to leave on the 18th of June (the day after the exam period ends) and be back on the 23rd of July (the day before Semester 2 teaching starts).
Results Day
1st of July
Results for Semester 1 Courses are released on this day; you will be notified of your marks via email/text, so it is difficult to hide from them.
Recommended Enrollment Date for Semester 2 Courses
8-9 of July
Please enrol in courses by this date. Do not wait until O-Week because you forfeit a significant advantage that will potentially put you behind other students before the semester even starts.
