New Class Allocation System ‘MyTimetable’ Launching for Semester 2
By Georgie Ralphs
ANU has introduced a new timetabling system in time for Semester 2 2022.
The Allocate + system – known as MyTimetable – will provide an official, singular platform for all timetabling and class allocations.
The system will allow students to:
- View the timetable for their enrolled courses;
- Allocate themselves into tutorials;
- Request swaps and waitlists for preferred tutorials;
- View detailed class information; and
- Compare schedules with other students.
Students will be able to access MyTimetable from 11 July and will be required to enrol themselves into Semester 2 tutorials using the new system.
In a statement to Observer, The Class Allocation Project explained that MyTimetable is designed to be “streamlined and user-friendly”, allowing “for a straightforward and stress-free timetabling experience.”
It will give students “complete control” over their timetable and reduce the administrative load class allocation places on course conveners.
MyTimetable replaces the current system, which requires students to navigate three platforms: the Official ANU Timetable Viewer, the Unofficial Timetable Planner, and Wattle.
The Class Allocation Project recognised that the “current inconsistent timetabling experience often leaves students confused, frustrated and in need of extra support to finalise their timetable.”
ANUSA Welfare Officer Grace King agreed, telling Observer that the current system is “difficult to navigate, requires multiple platforms and is poorly communicated.”
These difficulties “are even more pronounced for students that are traditionally underrepresented and excluded by higher education institutions.”
King believes that “ANU lags significantly behind other universities in this regard”.
The Class Allocation Project explained that the new system is part of the University’s Digital Master Plan which required time to implement effectively. The Project says that “MyTimetable is an example of how the University is continuingly working towards providing a positive ANU experience.”
The new MyTimetable system was successfully piloted on selected College of Law students in Semester 1. Two ANUSA SRC representatives have also trialled the system and described it as “intuitive”.
Students will be able to find support guides on how to navigate the new system at the MyTimetable website.
