Exams are over and campus is emptier than an Australian parliament of eligible politicians, but Observer is still here to keep you up to date on all the latest news. NUS
ANUSA will formally disaccredit from the National Union of Students for 2018, following the Union’s failure to meet key transparency and accountability conditions set by ANUSA in March this year. The Student Association will send non-voting observers to the NUS National Conference next month to inform next years accreditation. Read more about this decision here.
ANU
The University has been ranked 21st in Times Higher Education (THE) for employability, up one place from last year, and sixteen places from 2015. The ANU is the only Australian University on the top 30. Read the full list on the THE website here.
Campus
Australia Post opened in the Pop-Up Village on Monday this week, for all your postal and santa letter related needs. It is located next to the Vodafone store, across from the Campus Bakery. Molo Live also has new additions, now hosting a pool table and pinball game.
Vice- Chancellor Schmidt toured Chifley library to “understand” issues with overcrowding. ANU’s head librarian told Observer that this year has seen an 8% increase in usage, leading to greater frustration about space management. Schmidt was unable to comment on any specific solutions to the problem, as reported on by the Observer here.
The alleged Copland attacker pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted murder, after appearing in the Magistrates Court on the 2nd of November. Ophel, the accused, allegedly attacked students and teachers earlier this year. Read the latest updates on the court case here, and our initial report of the attack here. Academia
Labor Law will now be running as a summer course, despite the university initially not hosting any summer courses for law this year. After College of Law representatives raised concerns about the issue, the new course was added this week.
Student Associations
ANU has offered draft SSAF allocations for 2018, setting the funding of all major student associations. You can read the allocations here. Observer has been offered SAFF funding of $32,000 for 2018.
